OTP Charity Tour: More than 16,000 km cycled for emergency flights

The second edition of the charitable cycling tour was organized by OTP Bank Romania in benefit of the children supported by the Blondie Association

Bucharest, May 22, 2023: More than 16,000 km were cycled by the 60 bikers registered for the second edition of the OTP Charity Tour, organized by OTP Bank Romania in support of Blondie Association’s cause. 

OTP Charity Tour, held under the motto "Pedal on the road to pink!", attracted over 80 amateur and semi-amateur cyclists at the start line, more than half of whom are employees of OTP Bank Romania. They started on Friday, May 19, on a route of 319 km from Bucharest - Nicolae Minovici Museum (start) - Sărata Monteoru - Vălenii de Munte - Academia Titi Aur (finish).  

„The impact of this project goes beyond the funds raised and demonstrates that we can, in the community, bring hope to those who need us. And because of this, our target was a huge one: the lifes of children who depend on a flight to be treated abroad and receive a chance to live. The spirit of community, determination, and compassion defined this tour. Together, we rode over 16.000 km, overcoming challenges and embracing the joy of cycling. I express my heartfelt gratitude to every participant who pedalled to raise donations and spread awareness for this noble cause.”, said Gyula Fatér, CEO of OTP Bank Romania and ambassador of the event.

The OTP Charity Tour was divided into three special stages, with the longest distance being covered on the first day of the competition, where participants traveled 123 km and had to overcome level differences of up to 400 meters. 
The third and final stage of the competition, with a distance of 104 km, ended on Sunday, May 21, with a platoon sprint to the finish line set at the Titi Aur Academy.

The objective of the OTP Charity Tour was realized in more than 16,000 kilometers pedaled together, so that at the end of the competition, OTP Bank Romania donated 1 euro for every kilometer traveled for the cause of the Blondie Association.

The sports partner, Master Ski & Bike Club, provided safety monitoring on the route, hydration stations and repair and service activities for the participants' bikes during the event. The Titi Aur Academy hosted the finish event, where the award ceremony took place. The starting moment was hosted by the Folk Art Museum "Prof. Dr. Nicolae Minovici" from Bucharest, as a cultural partner.
