OTP Bank Romania supports the first edition of Transylvanian Design Week, to be organized in 2023 in Miercurea Ciuc

București, November 25, 2022 – OTP Bank Romania will support the first edition of Transylvanian Design Week, the first event of this type dedicated to the entire community of designers in Transylvania. The event will take place between February 18 and March 20, 2023, in Miercurea Ciuc, and it is organized by Szekler Museum of Ciuc and the City Hall of Miercurea Ciuc, with support from OTP Bank Romania.

The objective for the first edition of Transylvanian Design Week is to create, together with the artists and the general public, a collage about what design means today in Transylvania.

The visual identity of the event reflects this very idea: the organizers aim to start a collective reflection on these questions in the creative community and thus, with the help of a wide variety of ideas, create a snapshot of the contemporary design from Transylvania.

"We see Transylvania Design Week as a dynamic and comprehensive creative initiative, aimed at inciting the local creative community, and it is a privilege to be partners in a project that wants to engage the general public in the mission to define the status of contemporary Transylvanian design. Creativity and local design need support and resources, and through this partnership we join the Szekler Museum of Ciuc, in recognizing and supporting art in the Transylvanian region", said Attila Kelemen, Director of Marketing and Communication, OTP Bank Romania.

"What does contemporary design mean? Everything that surrounds us. Visitors at the exhibitions in our museum can see the design of the past. The material of this Design Week will tell the story of today's people and represent us 100-200 years later," said Aranka Karda-Markaly, the director of Szekler Museum of Ciuc.

"Miercurea Ciuc has creativity and courage to look in new directions that are not familiar to the city. We are happy to welcome OTP Bank Romania’s idea. We are dedicated partners in all of our initiatives, and we are also happy to see contemporary art between the 400-year-old walls of our museum. With this, we are sending a message: In Miercurea Ciuc there is place for new, contemporary and modern ideas," added Attila Korodi, the mayor of Miercurea Ciuc.

The organizers want to involve in this reflection on Transylvanian design not only the creators, but also the public interested in contemporary design, and during the preparation of the event to offer everyone the opportunity to add their own ideas to the image that is gradually taking shape. The visual identity and communication activities of TDW are signed by the Bold Branding Studio from Cluj-Napoca.

Transylvanian Design Week caters to both the local and international design community and aims to create opportunities for Transylvanian artists to connect and share their work with a wider audience.

The central event of the Transylvanian Design Week will be the exhibition at the Szekler Museum of Ciuc, where, in addition to the works of designers invited by the curator of the event, the organizers also expect works of Transylvanian designers.

The organizers have announced a competition for artists that want to participate at the Transylvanian Design Week in the following categories:

  • fashion design,
  • object design,
  • graphic design,
  • motion design.

Designers can submit artworks completed within the last two years. The submitted art pieces will be evaluated by a jury formed by six members, among whom are renowned Romanian professionals: Oláh Gyárfás – curator, Adrian Balcău – object designer, Estztány István – object designer, Hátszegi Zsolt – media design, Szigeti G. Csongor - media artist, Zsigmond Adél - fashion designer, Kelemen Attila - marketing & brand expert.

The best works will be exhibited at the Szekler Museum of Ciuc exhibition between February 18 and March 10, 2023. The winner of each category will receive a cash prize of 4,000 lei, offered by OTP Bank Romania.
