OTP Bank Romania Foundation opens a new education program in Miercurea Ciuc, with the support of the City Hall

Bucharest, May 31, 2022 – OTP Bank Romania Foundation inaugurated a new education program in Miercurea Ciuc and through the collaboration with the local City Hall launches a social responsibility project offering financial education classes for local pupils.

The new education program is located in the Miercurea Ciuc City Hall building and it was designed as a space dedicated to activities for the development of financial and economic skills among students aged 10 to 18 years. All the modules of financial and economic education use the Edutainment methodology, with a language appropriate for the pupils age, so that they will comprehend more easily the financial alphabet.

"The current economic context has put pressure on most social groups, and young people are no exception. This is what the studies say, showing a below average level of financial education in Romania. I believe that an investment in education is an investment in the future of society, especially in the current context, so we set out to expand the services of our Foundation by launching this project together with Miercurea Ciuc City Hall. The mission of our colleagues from the OTP Bank Romania Foundation is to create valuable educational content for impactful educational initiatives and to offer classes adapted to the needs of the young generations,” said Gyula Fatér, CEO of OTP Bank Romania.

“We are glad that this activity will take place in Miercurea Ciuc, in partnership with the OTP Bank Romania Foundation, with the local schools and, last but not least, with the support of parents that have perceived the importance of this type of education. I believe that this initiative is a real investment in the future, and the community in Miercurea Ciuc has only to gain from it.”, said Attila Korodi, mayor of Miercurea Ciuc.

The new education program will begin its activity in the 2022-2023 school year. The 3 accredited trainers will provide financial education classes for middle school and high school students and will provide young people with the necessary knowledge for conscious career planning. The Foundation aims to strengthen its position in the field of non-formal education and, in the future, will offer classes for financial education, digital education and emotional intelligence for adults as well.

OTP Bank Romania Foundation promotes financial education and among the most important objectives is the development of valuable partnerships in all areas of financial education and vocational training, to support the contribution to the training and development of the young generation in Romania.

In its 8 years of activity, the Foundation has implemented an important portfolio of educational projects built on four main lines of activity: financial education, children's education, career guidance and strategic partnerships with local associations and NGOs. Among these are financial education or career guidance workshops for teenagers, the launch of the Bethlen Gábor Alapkezelő scholarship or the inauguration of the first centre in Romania dedicated to financial education, both for teenagers and adults.
